Open Positions

We are always looking for talented and motivated students interested in pursuing research at the Master's/Bachelor's level. Interested students should contact me to discuss possible projects.

Currently, we have two open funded Ph.D. positions in our lab:

1) NV-diamond NMR technology development

Description of the work
In this Ph.D. position, a highly sensitive NV-NMR setup will be developed for detecting NMR signals at surfaces. The project will include setting up the experiment, writing control software and performing NMR experiments on interesting (bio)chemical systems. The work will be highly interdisciplinary at the interface of (quantum)physics, chemistry and biology.

Requirements:
Prospective candidates should have a degree in physics or related field, interested in technology development and have hands-on experience in physics labs and Matlab programming. While not required, experience in one or more of the following topics are advantageous:
NV-quantum sensing, microwave engineering, NMR/EPR

2) Development of diamond surface chemistry

Description of the work
In this Ph.D. position NMR with NV-diamonds will be used to investigate molecular systems at surfaces. In this project, methods will be developed to modify and functionalize diamond surfaces. The functionalization will be then used to bring model systems on the diamond surface which will be analyzed with NV-NMR. The work will be highly interdisciplinary at the interface of (synthetic) chemistry, biology and (quantum)physics.

Requirements:
Prospective candidates should have a degree in (bio)chemistry or related field and interested to work in a highly interdisciplinary field from synthesis, NMR and (quantum) physical measurements. While not required, experience in one or more of the following topics are advantageous:
Surface chemistry, lipid bilayers, catalysis, NMR spectroscopy
